Based on actual events, this is the dramatic re-telling of what is still thought to be one of the most heroic small boat rescues in the U.S. Coast Guard's history. In 1952, one of the worst blizzard-like storms ever to hit the New England coastline crippled an oil tanker off the Cape Cod coast, nearly ripping the ship in two. Fighting against time, four Coast Guard members set out in a tiny lifeboat, braving 70-foot high waves and frigid temperatures as they try to rescue the more than 30 stranded sailors trapped aboard the vessel before it sinks.
